Hello! My name is Kim “Aka” Kitty. I live in Midwest Wisconsin, and I own too many sewing machines. Let’s be friends.
This blog is a way for me to document the things I sew and make, and how I make them. Most of my sewing projects are costumes and vintage style clothing.
I love costumes and historical details and completely impractical skirt circumferences.
I have been sewing since I was an itty bitty (15+ years). I also love to immerse myself in other art forms such as knitting, jewelry making, sculpting, painting, bookbinding and leatherwork. Anything that will make a good costume!
Part of the joy of costuming and recreation is finding out how something goes together. I’m a “Figure it out” and “Let’s see what happens if I do this” kind of person.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in theatre with an emphasis on prop and costume design. I spent some time doing renaissance faires, being the head costumer for a haunted attraction, and creating outfits for live casts at 1950s car shows. I have sewn everything from dancing teddy bear costumes to Italian gowns and swing dresses. When I can find them, I collect vintage clothing, sewing patterns, knitting patterns, and weird kitschy décor. Currently, I am the director of vendor operations for a local renaissance faire. I live with my boyfriend Mr. S and our two cats Horus and Anubis.
I hope you enjoy the sewing chaos that is my blog. In this blog, I will be working to grow my skills as a designer and costumer, but also hope to inspire others to create. I love comments and feedback. Please don’t hesitate to go on this journey with me. Tell me your ideas, thoughts, and suggestions!
